We Can Do Better

Many Hands.jpeg

Just Policies is a rapidly growing organization that focuses on mobilizing citizens who want to live in a more just world.  We research various policies, speak with involved parties, formulate realistic recommendations, form coalitions, inform our members, do live interviews with relevant speakers and make regular 'calls to action'.  Our members are aware there are many systemic governmental and institutionalized forms of unjust treatment.  Because of this awareness they want to take action and are seeking clear/effective ways to do so.  We believe in a participatory democracy where citizens stop naively waiting for the system to self-correct and take effective action to influence positive change.

We started in the summer of 2020 after the murder of George Floyd and our first policy focus was/is ending Qualified Immunity.  We believe this policy was one of the contributing factors that lead to the casual disregard officer Derek Chauvin displayed for the life of George Floyd.  Former officer Chauvin clearly did not think there was any chance he would be held accountable; this is a systemic problem.  From a single policy focus, we have broadened our mission to transforming racial justice in the criminal justice system.  Though we plan to eventually branch out to other areas of policy, we expect to spend the next several years focused primarily on the reformation of the criminal justice system.

We've been researching policy recommendations at 3 levels: policing, the courts and incarceration.  With the help of those that have walked this path before us and the people directly involved in both the community and the criminal justice system, we’ve formulated a roadmap we believe in.  There is a path to realistic and meaningful transformation (see Big Picture).  We plan on going viral, harnessing and steering the current collective energies of concern/protest, and channeling them toward creating a justice system we can actually say is just.

EVERYONE is sincerely welcome as long as you support the mission and treat other members with dignity and respect.  You can engage at whatever level of participation motivates you (see Get Involved).

                                     OUR MISSION

The mission of Just Policies is to affect change, to educate, to mobilize and to reform systemic racial legacy policies at the governmental and organizational levels of our society for a more just future.
